Dear Pulse Readers,

Greetings from Miami!

It’s Art Week here, and if you’ve been following along on our Instagram, you know that Art Basel Miami Beach is back in a BIG way – the fair is celebrating its 20th year with more galleries and exhibitions than ever before – which means even more to see & do.

Beyond the art (there’s a lot), brands are seizing the opportunity to connect with consumers and plug into the cultural moment. BMF is here activating with four different clients – from a Mexican photography exhibition celebrating Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, and a buzzy event for Route to an intimate event for Douglas Elliman and more.

Not only are we producing, but our teams are on the ground to get inspired and keep the agency’s finger on...well…the pulse of what’s new & next. Read on for a recap of highlights, and inspiration on what to see and do if you’re in town.

Stay inspired.

Bruce, Brian, Ed + The BMF Team

The POV

The POV: Contemporary Art
Artist partnerships give brands cultural equity. In the spirit of Miami Art Week, our team is giving you a primer on the contemporary artists you need to know, who perennially inspire marketers.

The New + The Noteworthy

Everything Worth Doing/Seeing/Getting/Booking

BMF enlisted curators Fariba Farshad & Patricia Conde to create Fotografia Maroma: a multi-faceted exhibition celebrating Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, on display in Miami during Art Week. The show dives into the soul of the Riviera Maya from the perspective of 4 different photographers. For anyone wanting to learn more about the culture, history and landscapes of the region read on here and check it out here.

Madonna’s book SEX was released in 1992 and quickly became known for its liberated views of sexual self-expression. To celebrate the book’s 30-year anniversary, Madonna and Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello will bring Steven Meisel’s compelling photographs to Art Basel Miami Beach. The exhibition will be available to visit for those over the age of 18 from November 29 to December 4.

Amazon Prime Video’s RICHES is a fictional drama about the successful Richards family as they vie for control of their beauty brand when the patriarch suddenly passes away – in short: a Black dynasty in turmoil. The show’s Art Week exhibition “The Crown We Never Take Off” is a celebration of Black achievements and expression. The event takes place at the Soho Studios and free tickets are available here.

Art Basel brings in big names from year to year. However, if you're someone who wants to support local Miami artists – No Vacancy, Miami Beach is THE experience to check out. The juried art exposition takes place in different Miami Beach hotels with site-specific installations created by 12 different artists this year. Click here for more info.

Virgil Abloh had a profound impact on art, fashion and design. To commemorate his contributions to culture, Nike and VA Securities will hold a four-day experience titled “Virgil Abloh: The Codes c/o Architecture”. The exhibition will honor Virgil’s legacy and highlight his long-term partnership with Nike. Check it out at the Rubell Museum from until December 4th.

Inspired by “The Futurist Cookbook”, Superblue and Meta have teamed up to create Aerobanquets RMX, a unique mixed-reality art and culinary experience. Led by chef Mattia Casalegno and James Beard Award-winning chef Chintan Pandya, the dining experience will immerse guests into a virtual dimension of textures and flavors as they taste each course IRL. The activation takes place from November 28 to December 4, tickets available here.

Faena Hotel’s eponymous theater knows how to deliver a dang good show. On November 4th they are inviting guests to the Grand Premiere of Allura Cabaret, a show consisting of holographic constructions of transfigural architecture, body mapping, and Latin vibes with exciting 80’s musical twists. Caught your attention? Prepare yourself for the unexpected and snag tickets here.

What We're Listening To Now.

If you're in Miami right now then you're facing a veritable wealth of live music opportunities. It’s impossible for us to put it all down on paper, so we're so glad that EDM Tunes has helped us plan our Basel. Art, music, Madonna – this week will be a feast for all senses and we can’t wait!

The Destination

Now Departing...

While Art Basel offers endless opportunities for art, culture and entertainment, Miami is a traveler’s paradise year-round. Check out our updated Miami travel guide and make the most of your trip to the 305.

The Sublime

Creators, Innovators, And Cool $#!+ You Should Know About.

Louis Vuitton is going big at Art Basel Miami Beach by exhibiting a curated ensemble of the world’s most renowned artists. The installation will be featured at the Miami Beach Convention Center and includes artwork by Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, and more. Read on here.

From 30 November to 4 December, Bottega Veneta invites itself to Miami for Art Basel. In the continuity of the spring-summer 2023 show, directed by Matthieu Blazy, the Italian label exhibits Gaetano Pesce’s 400 arty chairs on which the guests were seated - a celebration of diversity. A selection of design pieces in cotton dipped in resin, as well as a limited edition book will be presented during the event entitled “Come Stai?” (How are you?). Here for more info.

Our Lady of Rocco, a collaboration between chef and restaurateur Mario Carbone and La Ligne will be hosting a pop-up in the Miami Design District during Miami Art Week to celebrate the launch of the collection Part II as well as some seriously covetable reworked vintage finds. Man and machine become connected at the immersive installation "Pulse Topology" by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. Brought to Art Basel by BMW, Lozano-Hemmer will use photoplethysmography technology to transform the experience by using passengers’ heartbeats to control lights, sound, and more. The exhibition will be housed at Superblue's space in Miami until December 4. Jumpstart your inspiration by reading more here.

The NFT art market has become more and more popular, however blockchain technology has also been heavily criticized for contributing to global warming. This is where Tezos decided to step in, creating an energy-efficient solution. To get the word out, the company teamed up with German artist Mario Klingemann to generate AI portraits of fairgoers who can then use Tezos to mint NFTs of their digital artworks. The exposition “Humans + Machines: NFTs and the Ever-Evolving World of Art” will also hold a series of talks and expositions of people in the industry. Learn more here.

Germane Barnes’ Rock | Roll installation was curated by Anna Carnick and Wava Carpenter, of Anava Projects. The 2022 winner of the Miami Design District Annual Neighborhood Commission, Barnes designed each piece to celebrate Miami’s BIPOC communities, drawing inspiration from Miami Carnival’s vibrancy. This is the first time a Miami-based creative has won the invitation-only commission, so get inspired by this love letter to the Magic City here.

Don’t fuss if you can’t be at Art Basel Miami this year – you’ll be able to get a taste of the creative drip through Billionaire Boys Club (BBC) collab with NYC graffiti artist Todd James. The colorful special-edition Art Basel capsule collection is a blend of punky skateboard style and cartoonish cool graphics. For those in the 305 check out BBC’s flagship store in Wynwood or get it all online now.

Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III create art with the intention of bringing more joy, kindness, and love to the world. The City of Miami recognized their potential and commissioned them to create a public artwork known as “Starchild”. The impressive sculpture is 50 ft. tall and will be located in Henry Liebman Square. Check out the artist’s work at the convention center and read more about the piece here.

Art and design can be a trip – just take a look at A$AP Rocky’s ‘Shroom Cactus’. The musician and entrepreneur teamed up with Italian brand Gufram to reimagine the iconic 1972 design by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello. Check it out at Design Miami/ and learn more here.
