Dear Pulse Readers,

Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a chance to reset and reconnect over the holidays because 2023 is here and making herself known.

BMF’s calendar is already filling up, with a lot to look forward to in the months ahead. Still, our teams are looking around the corner for what’s going to be new, hot & next this year.

At the top of each year, we like to think about possibilities for the future. For the past three years, we’ve shared a white paper featuring predictions and consumer lifestyle trends that’ll shape culture & consumer behavior vis-à-vis marketing. This year, we’ve assembled 23 predictions for 2023 that we’re excited to share with you.

As an extension of that, in this edition, we’re sharing our thoughts on all things 2023. Whether you’re curious about what trends might be shaping the world of marketing this year and beyond, looking to take a “slow travel” trip, or searching for the best shows and cultural happenings to snag tickets to – we’ve got you covered.

Stay inspired.

What We're Listening To Now.

2023 marks the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop. Expect year-long celebrations held around the world to uplift and honor every aspect of Hip Hop culture. From concerts and tours to battles, competitions, and exhibitions, all of your favorite DJs, MCs, Breakdancers, Beatboxers, Graffiti artists, and more will show up and show out to make this golden anniversary of Hip Hop culture the most extraordinary year yet. How will brands plug into this moment? Check out more here.

Music, fashion, and art have always converged, but few people authentically flow as freely between those worlds as Ethel Cain. She’s walked in New York and Paris Fashion Week for Eckhaus Latta and Miu Miu, respectively, modeled and composed music for Givenchy, and starred in the Palace x Calvin Klein campaign, all while giving her fans – insiders and outsiders alike – conceptual songs they can joyfully weep to. Her tracks are undeniably tune-in-worthy. Don’t believe us? Just ask Obama, the Los Angeles Times, and NPR, who all mentioned her on their best of 2022 lists. Catch her at Coachella in April and keep an eye on what she’s up to here.

The Destination

Now Departing...

If you like to travel as much as we do, then you are eager to dig in and more deeply connect to the locale you set off to. Check out BMF’s guides to some of the places we suggest visiting for a ‘slow travel’ adventure – connect to the local customs, traditions, and tastes, avoiding those pesky churn and burn tourist traps in favor of luxuriating in destinations like New Mexico, Cape Town, and the Andaman Islands. Looking for more inspo? The New York Times just dropped their annual 52 Places To Go In 2023.
